At one time, people drew wisdom from plants, ancestral stories, lore and intuition to understand how to heal mind, body and spirit. This is what we call folk healing. But then, somewhere along the line, all of these essential parts of ourselves were dismembered. Stories and lore were sent to poets and fantasy writers. Plants were boiled down to a hard science. And intuition was completely forgotten, making way for the voice of society rather than our own. Old Moon Medicine Show weaves those lost pieces of ourselves back together for those who want to connect to the Old Ways. If you feel called to something beyond yourself, just out of reach, perhaps this space is for you.
Each month we will explore a new theme or topic through the lens of herbalism, folklore and animism. My hope for this space is to provide accessible herbal education and conversation, while also helping folks cultivate deeper modes of healing from this wisdom that lies just under the surface.
Why the Healer’s Moon? In the days of our land-ancestors, one of the ways humans marked time was by the cycles of the moon. They named each full moon of the year in accordance with something that was in season or prevalent at that time {Strawberry Moon, Harvest Moon, Hunter’s Moon, etc}. Each culture has their own names for each moon, reflecting their traditions and the seasons. The Healer’s Moon is a new name. It represents the age of the healer coming into season, returning from times past to rise again just like the moon herself. Now is the time to reclaim old wisdom and ways, under the light of the Healer’s Moon.
